What is it?
The gold rush was when people from all around the world migrated to California when the first neggets of gold were discovered in California's Sacramento Valley. The gold rush caused immigration from all around the world into the United States. This increased the population in the West drastically and created a more diverse population compared to the Indian tribes that used to live there.
Why is it important?
The gold rush brought different cultures and ethnicities to Western America and this helped boost the economy. Then miners got to rely on mining towns which developed to help support the miners by providing a place for them to stay. There were over 30 different mining towns in California which helped the mining industry spread. California was view as valuable to the United States because many people migrated from around the world in search for gold which was the world wide standard currency at that time.

The gold rush is considered a progress because it helped the economy in the economy in the United States. The gold that came from California made the miners wealthy and happy. They spread the word of the gold and more people immigrated in search of their own gold. Since more people from all over the world came to America it increased the population in the West and helped America become stronger.
