Settling the West (1860-1890)
The Homestead Act- The Homestead Act leads to Immigration and Industrialization for Urban America. With the many products being made on the farmlands there was an idea to transport the good from the West throughout the world. So this led to the creation of a transcontinental railroad. Immigration was also impacted with the Homestead Act because other people from different countries wanted to immigrate to America to start a new life in the West with the benefit of not paying for the land until five years when they could pay for it with the money they earned from the agriculture.
The Transcontinental Railroad- This was a progress in history because the railroad led to the industrialization of Urban America. With the transcontinental railroad businesses started to be creating throughout the country spreading from the East to West and everywhere in between. Businesses used the railroad to increase trade, transportation services, and to make a profit. Almost all businesses used the transcontinental railroad to transport their materials or products and recieve materials from all over the country. The transcontinental helped America progress into Urban America.
The Gold Rush- The gold rush lead to industrialization and urban America. With the money the gold rush brought into America people became wealthy and started businesses with their newly found wealth. With new businesses being made buildings started being built and with buildings being built new jobs were created. As a domino effect the economy became more prosperous with businesses.

Industrialization/ Immigration/ Urban America
Political Machines and Robber Barons- Political machines have influenced history in a good way and in a bad way. The bad way that political machines have influenced history was the suffering of the working class. While the working class was suffering, political machines have influenced history in a good way by showing the world what too much power can do to an environment. The world has seen how an unstable social classes have been influenced by unfairness and greed. This leads onto the next era of progressivism when new laws are made to make the lives of citizens better and equal. With an equal work environment then maybe everyone could be happy and learn to get along.
Standard Oil- Standard Oil helps lead to the next era of progressivism because this is an example of one company having all control over other smaller companies and how the government took control of the situation. The government made laws about companies controlling industries which is what progressivism is all about, making laws to benefit the people. More strict laws on businesses and corporations were made in the progressivism era.
Ellis Island- Ellis Island helped lead to the progressivism era because with all of the immigrants coming into America for new jobs there were children starting to work for lower wages and since more people wanted to work other working Americans recieved lower wages for longer hours of work. So in the progressivism era laws about child labor and work hours were made to make the lives of Americans better and happier.

The Meat Packing Act- The Meat Packing Act helps lead to Imperialism because this helped the government have control over all meat packing industries in the country. The Imperialism era was when political power was brought upon a nation for the good of the people. In the meat packing act the government had power to control meat packing industries by having inspections to make sure that the Americans had healthy food to eat.
Labor Laws- Labor laws help lead to the next era of Imperialism because the Imperialism era is when the political officials start having power over the entire country to help benefit the lives of every citizen. So the labor laws relate to this because this is when the government makes up a set of laws about the work force and the entire country must follow these laws to make the lives better of every citizen. Lives of Americans have become safer and have a fair environment with the labor laws in progress.
Muckrakers- Muckrakers help lead to the next era of Imperialism because in Imperialism the government made the lives of Americans better by tackling the concerns and complaints of Americans and solving the problems. Muckrakers relate to this because they acted as a catalyst to move the issues of Americans faster to the government to solve by shining light down on all of the dirt and grime of society. Overall America has progressed into a better society with the help of Muckrakers.

Big Stick, Dollar, Moral- The Big Stick Diplomacy, the Dollar Diplomacy, and the Moral Diplomacy helped lead to the next era known as WWI. Since all of these diplomacies involved other countries and having influence of the United States over other countries the government in other countries had tensions rising. Some countries agreed with the diplomacy's and followed the footsteps of the United States while other countries rebelled and fought with the United States. As the tensions rose so did the rise of WWI.
Open-Door Policy- The Open Door Policy helps lead to WWI because during that time China and other countries around the world are making new advancements in technology of weapons. With the fear of another country having a more powerful weapon than yours, the first reaction other countries is to make a stronger weapon. However when a country tries to take over another with their new advancements and trade from other countries by limiting the access, a war might break out. This is how the Open Door Policy contributes to the starting of WWI.
Panama Canal- While the building of the Panama Canal was happening so was WWI. So evidently the building of the Panama Canal did not lead to WWI. However the Panama Canal lead to an easier trade between countries with war supplies and other goods to troops. The Panama Canal could give Americans a more positive topic to talk about instead of the sad topic of war when WWI was taking place.

WWI
14 Points- World War I helps lead to the next era of the 1920's because after the war there was a lot of uproar against the government and a lot of rebellion from the traditional ways. So in the 1920's there was a new kind of music called the jazz age, girls had "short" skirts, and there were flappers. Since the first world war caused some unorganized lifestyle for Americans new ways of life started emerging from the people.
The Home Front- When the men were at war and the women were at home working the same jobs that men used to do this helped lead to the next era in history called the 1920's. During the 1920's women started to become more rebellions about the old ways and started doing things that were in style and fashionable. Just like how the women on the Home Front started working for their first time this must have sparked an idea that they can do many things that were shunned upon at that time. Women in the 1920's started wearing "short" skirts that were above their ankles and cut their hair short. There were also flappers during the 1920's too. So the new independence of women that was started during WWI might have started and independence that was going to be continued for many years later in history.
Propaganda- Propaganda helps lead to the 1920's because propaganda was when the government tried to hide all of the bad issues occurring overseas and with other international powers. In the 1920's there were issues that some of the public would consider as "bad" but these topics were not able to be covered up by the government because they were happening in the everyday lives of the population. There were girls wearing "short" skirts and cutting their hair short and traditional people saw this as bad because it was different. But really it was just a change from the traditional style to the new modern kind of style. The government could have told the people what was going on during WWI and maybe there could of been a change from the traditional government tactics to a new modern view on solving the problem. This is how propaganda led to the 1920's. The population had less government control and more control of their own lives.

1920's
League of Nations- The League of Nations could have led to the next era in history known as The Great Depression because of the economic debt that they could damage a country with. However the United States was not part of the League of Nations at this time because the new president Herbert Hoover did not believe that joining the League of Nations was in the best interest for the country, which was not true. Since Hoover showed such little interest for the well being of the country and the citizens the economy started to fall violently. The stock market would eventually crash on October 29th, 1929.
Trickle Down (Republicans)- This theory helped lead to the next era in history known as the Great Depression. When Herbert Hoover relied on the Trickle Down theory he just focused on the statistics of the idea instead of what was really happening to the people around the world. Hoover thought that when the wealthy got more money, then they would hire more workers for their business and then in return make more profit while the poor people with the new jobs started earning money and start crawling out of their economic debt. This did not happen and the Trickle Down theory led to the Great Depression because when the wealthy had more money they invested it into the stock market so that they could earn more money for themselves. This process continued during the era and the rich got richer and the poor got poorer resulting in the Great Depression.
KKK- The KKK helped lead to the next era in history known as the Great Depression because when they murdered all of the blacks this caused turmoil and anger. When the country is angry with one another then there would not be a strong country as a whole. This could of related to the Great Depression because business owners were usually white Americans and the workers were usually black African Americans or slaves. If a black African American went into the North of the country to get a job then they would of been denied and homeless because they would have no money. In the South if an African American went to get a job then they would be slaves and earn little to no pay on plantations for the exchange of a place to live and food, which was not very nice at all. Denying people of jobs and segregating the African Americans helped lead to the Great Depression because there was social and economic turmoil.
Medicine- The discovery of Penicillin helped lead history into the next era known as the Great Depression because there were a lot of people sick with bacterial infections and it wasn't until the Great Depression era when patients really started using this medicine to help cure their infections. Also before the Great Depression the popularity of the drug was not as common. But when people started losing their homes and had to live in the streets during the Great Depression, they became more exposed to the bacteria by living in close contact with other sick people. So the bacterial infections were at an ultimate high right now when there are families living in close living quarters with other families who have been exposed and carried the bacterial infection. Alexander Fleming's discovery of Penicillin helped lead into the Great Depression and it still has a purpose in the world toady.

The Great Depression/ New Deal
Herbert Hoover- Herbert Hoover helped lead the world into WWII because he caused the Great Depression. When there is a depression it isn't just felt in one country. All of the countries around the world felt the effects of the Great Depression. In Germany there was a lot of poverty and the people did not know if they were going to be able to make it through it. So Hitler was voted into the government by the German people because he rose to the occasion and told the people that he would give them the freedom that they needed to survive. This is how the Great Depression impacted Germany. But the whole world was impacted negatively financially which caused turmoil from the people who were mad at their governments and with all of the anger going around the world it wasn't unusual that a second world war broke lose.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt- Franklin Delano Roosevelt did not help the country lead into the next era of WWII because he was too busy trying to strengthen the country from the economic debt. All a war would do would be to put even more financial debt onto the large pile the United States already had. Even if Roosevelt didn't have a direct approach to leading the world into WWII then the economic state that the Great Depression created around the world had a contributing factor. With all countries angry and upset with their financial status the war could of been around the corner at any day during this time.
Bank Holiday- The Banks holiday itself did not help lead to the next era in history known as WWII. However the financial state itself of all the banks around the world could have helped push the war further along because if every nation was struggling then there must have been some turmoil between the people and their government. So it was likely that countries began fighting because no one was happy at home and so they were fighting for a reason. This reason could of been to gain more land, money, and take control over more nations so that they were powerful.
New Deals- The New Deals could of lead to WWII because maybe some of the jobs that were created in the New Deals were government jobs that were related to military. When there is a military being created to protect the country and to offer aide throughout the country then other countries nearby will start being on edge. They will acknowledge that other countries are creating an army and start creating their own as well. This is how the New Deal Programs could help lead into the next era of history known as WWII.
Soup Kitchens- The soup kitchens could have possibly led to WWII because if other countries saw how the Americans were helping each other out and their countries were not helping out the people in need then they could of gotten mad. People could have been mad at their governments for not providing aide while the United States had a president all willing to give the aide that was necesarry to live in a peaceful and prosperous country. Also the rich people in America could of been unhappy about the soup kitchens because they could of thought that the government and other people were dumb in lending a hand to the needy and thought that they should use the money to help themselves survive. This was very selfish and could have caused disputes which could only add onto the fighting during the time of WWII.

WWII
Adolf Hitler- Having Adolf Hitler as a ruler and having him persecute the Jewish helped lead to the next era in history that is known as the Korean War because with all of the hostility towards cultural beliefs there was battles going on throughout the world. So it would only make sense in another war started and this one just happened to be the Korean War.
Joseph Stalin- Joseph Stalin helps lead to the next era in history known as the Korean was because the Korean was had a lot of government power and control over their own countries. Since Joseph Stalin believed in totalitarianism then it could of been likely that the controlling countries involved in the Korean war wanted the government to make the decisions for the country no matter what the cost the citizens had to pay. This is how the totalitarianism that Joseph Stalin believed in led to the Korean War.
Atomic Bomb- The atomic bomb helped lead to the next era in history known as the Korean War because with all the new advancements in technology of war weapons more wars in the future will be influenced to build deadlier weapons. So during the Korean War there were more powerful weapons created that were inspired by the creation of the atomic bomb.
Rosie the Riveter- Rosie the Riveter helped lead to the next era in history known as the Korean was because as another war erupted more men left their homeland to go fight in the war. So that meant that the female population of the country had to go to the workforce again and replace the spots the men left open when they left for war. Rosie the Riveter led to the Korean war because the economy was doing well with the women working at home so the money for the troops at war increased which meant that better supplies was sent to them to help the countries win the war.

Cold War & The 1950's
The Second Red Scare- The second red scare helps lead to the next era in history known as the civil rights movement in the 1960's because this red scare made the citizens of America be protected by the government. This has to do with the civil rights movement because this movement protected the rights of Americans just like how the federal government of the United States protected the Americans from the influence of communism from the Soviet Union.
Economic Boom- The economic boom helped lead to the next era in history known as the civil rights movement because as people started earning more money and receiving more jobs then the rights of Americans had to be taken care of. The civil rights movement protected Americans. In the workplace the Civil Rights Movement made sure that the workers got paid a decent amount of money for the work they do and it made sure that Americans did not work over long hours. The Civil Rights Movement also protected the money of Americans through the banks and led to a prosperous economy.
Television- Televisions helped lead to the next era in history known as the civil rights movement because during that time there were a lot of people protesting for what they believed was right. So televisions broadcasted the population protesting all around the world so other Americans could get involved and protest with what they believe is right in the world. Televisions helped lead to the Civil Rights Movement by allowing protesters to reach an all knew level of publicity around the world as it was happening live.

JFK & LBJ & The Civil Rights Movement
Civil Rights Act of 1964- The Civil Rights Movement helped lead to the next era in history known as Vietnam because this would be the first war when the African Americans fought in the same troops as the white men. There could still be some white Americans unhappy with the African Americans earning equal rights during this time so in war the African Americans had to stick together and watch their backs. This is when the 'black power' of African American soldiers first started. The Civil Rights Movement helped lead to the war of Vietnam with a mixed military force from the United States.
Creation of Medicare/Medicaid- The creation of Medicare helped lead to the next era in history known as Vietnam because in war many soldiers become wounded and a lot of men die fighting for their country. So the Medicare program comes into play when the program is extended out to soldiers who have fought in the war for their country. When a lot of soldiers return they suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The government offers these soldiers suffering government funded healthcare insurance to show the nations support for the men who fought in the war. This is how the Medicare program leads into the Vietnam War.
Nations Space Effort- Landing the man on the moon was related to the Vietnam war because once the United States accomplished this goal other countries viewed America as a leader. This helped America though the Vietnam war because other countries have gained respect for the nation.
C.O.R.E. (Congress on Racial Equality)- The group of C.O.R.E. helped lead to the next era in history known as the Vietnam War because as the war started there were groups of African Americans fighting with the white men. The African Americans usually stayed with their cultural group anyways in fear from the previous years of violence. With the C.O.R.E. group African Americans were able to interact socially with the white men during the war time when they had to live in close quarters with their once known enemies.

The Vietnam War
Richard Nixon- Richard Nixon helped lead history to where it is today because if he never resigned from president then the order of the presidents would of been out of the order they are in now. This is because if he continued to control the army in Vietnam and conditions were to get worse then the people of America might of elected a different ruler into history to fix the problem instead of who was followed by Richard Nixon. He has led history to where it is today because the country has learned from many of his war time mistakes and ever since then the United States use different war tactics that seem logical compared to Richard Nixon's violent attacks on Vietnam.
Draft Dodger- The draft dodgers helped history lead to where it is today because now people who serve in the military get their college expenses free until they graduate. This was chosen by the government because they saw how the men did not want to get involved in the war unless there was something in it that would benefit them. The Vietnam War helped lead to today because with the United States having involvement in the war it led to the possible outcomes that we faced during the time. As history progresses the world shapes itself around history to accommodate the needs of history.
Kent State Massacre- The Kent State Massacre helps lead to where history is today because with all of the experiences in history the world has learned from its mistakes. With the shooting the government has set up certain protocols when there is a protesting group and the National Guardsmen have learned not to kill any of the protestors for bringing attention to what they believe in. The Massacre at Kent State has taught the government that more control over weapons was necessary and if any of the National Guardsmen killed any innocent person in the world today, then there would be punishment given. It wouldn't matter if it was an accident or not, they still killed innocent people and it is horrible that in the past they got away with it. History in the past has helped shape the world today because new laws have been formed and incidents from the past have modified to world to what it stands as today. History is a history of progress.
