Joseph Stalin
(Political)
Who is he?
From 1928 to 1958 Joseph Stalin was the dictator of the Soviet Union. The idea of totalitarianism was Stalin's major push in coming to power. This was bad because the totalitarianism meant that the government had absolute power over the country and that what the people had to say did not mean anything. Joseph Stalin had a Five Years Plans that would push the Soviet Union to modernization. The Five Years Plans enforced industrialization and collectivization. Farmers were denied property under these plans and since the farmers had no property to grow food on there were a lot of food shortages going on throughout the land. The most famous positive outcome that was under the Five Years Plans was that the Soviet Union became a world power and lead into technology of space exploration. During WWII the soviet Union had the most casualties sadly.
Why is he important?
Joseph Stalin was important because he made the Soviet Union a stronger power and a more respected country in the world. He is also important because he was a dictator that did what was best for himself and the country rather than what was best for the people. Another reason why Joseph Stalin is important because he introduced the idea of totalitarianism which was when the government had absolute control over the country. This was bad because the government made any choices they wanted to make the country stronger military wise through the government. This could mean that the government could raise the taxes and make the people mad just to support the government and their game at making the best decisions for the controlled country.
Does he show progress?
Joseph Stalin does not show progress in history because any country that is controlled by totalitarianism does not show progress. If there is just governmental control over a country and the population doesn't get a say in what the country's next steps should be then the country is not progressing as a whole. The Soviet Union should of feared that the population would break away from the controlling government and there would be no supporters. The idea of a totalitarianism country is wrong and will not lead to a progress in history.
