What is it?
The first television was invented in the 1950's. The entire decade of the 1950's is known as "the Golden Age of Television". Televisions were one of the cheaper forms of multimedia in the 1950's which is what made them so popular. Every household tried to get a hold of a television because they could afford them. Some popular television shows during the 1950's were I Love Lucy, Father Knows Best, Our Miss Brooks, and Burns & Allen. Towards the end of the 1950's a different form of television was brought up when talk of live performances started happening. Around 3.1 million Americans had television sets in the 1950's. The television was useful to people in the 1950's because it announced the news, sports, had music, motion pictures, and was pretty much the best thing that happened for the lives of Americans during the 1950's. However televisions were not in color. They were just in shades of black and white.
Why is it important?
Televisions were important because they let everyone around the world know what was happening in the world through the news on the television. It was also important because it provided entertainment for families that could not afford to do entertaining events every night. It allowed families to sit together and spend some quality time together while watching their favorite shows. Televisions gave the world something to talk about and it influenced the technology field and had people studying newer ways for televisions.
Is this progress?
The invention of the television is a progress in history because it was an improvement in the technological field of study. Progress was shown when almost every American had one in their homes. Televisions also showed progress because whenever the world needed to make a huge announcement and get in touch with everybody to inform them of a situation, then the government could do it over the television and be proud to say that every American got the message. Televisions are a progress in the technology of history.

So televisions broadcasted the population protesting all around the world so other Americans could get involved and protest with what they believe is right in the world. Televisions helped lead to the Civil Rights Movement by allowing protesters to reach an all knew level of publicity around the world as it was happening live.
